Once upon a time, in the supposed home of the biblical Eden, the Marsh Arabs lived happily ever after for some 6000 years, surrounded by thriving, biodiverse green wetlands. Now the lands of the mythical Mesopotamian Marshes, home to the last descendants of the ancient Sumerians, are being devastated by geopolitical tensions and climate change.
The painting depicts a Marsh Arab woman with her water buffalo in a state of solastalgia.
